Academic Two-Year

Houff  Building

Blue Ridge Community College, Weyers Cave, Virginia

To address a shortage academic and student services spaces, the college looked to expand the existing Houff Center. The new design accommodates admissions and records, financial aid, counseling, and career services. Updated spaces include classrooms, chemistry labs, informal learning spaces, faculty offices, conference rooms, and support spaces. Designed to coincide with the recently updated master plan, the concept features two separate additions. The first is a two-story addition to the north and the second is a three-story addition located on the southern portion of the building, which is intended to be the facility’s new main entrance. Limited renovations to the existing facility include a new fire suppression system, ceiling and lighting replacements, upgrading the roof structure to support solar PV panels, and additional code-related improvements.
