Hunter B. Andrews PreK-8 School
Hampton City Schools, Hampton, Virginia
Hunter B. Andrews PreK-8 School allows students to attend school for nine consecutive years without having to change their school environment, teachers, or administrative team. The school features 12 separate learning centers, which creates a self-contained environment to assist with reducing the scale of the school. Each learning center contains approximately five classrooms that are centered around a commons area. The commons area is set up for flexibility for team teaching and other activities. The building design also provides for the isolation of the academic areas from the assembly areas to allow for community use . The project, which is LEED Silver certified with the U.S. Green Building Council, was also designed to function as an emergency shelter for the City of Hampton.
